West Chelsea Contemporary (WCC) is much more than the typical art gallery. The Texan outfit offers world-class art in a dynamic, interactive setting. WCC produces museum-quality exhibitions year-round with programming that is free and open to the public. They needed a brand that could support the edge and excitement of street art, while being true to the ‘West Chelsea’ name.

We created a brand that could flex to frame the versatility of any masterpiece. Street art isn’t restrained a canvas or within four walls, and so we wanted to reflect this by using the ‘W’ and ‘C’ as holding devices, with the art breaking out.

The crisp, bold shapes of the WCC letters were crying out to be fully fleshed out into a font that could be used throughout the branding. ‘West Chelsea Black’ creates impact and brand recognition, wherever it’s used.

Located in downtown Austin, Texas the signage on the outside of the building was every bit as important as the art held within. And when you’re designing a brand identity for an art gallery, it can’t look ordinary, so the pressure was on!
